Current and recent projects  
Dr. Birchfield's current book project explores the evolution of the European Union and its relationship with the United States and is titled "In Search of a Transatlantic Agora: The Values Debate in EU-US Relations and the Quest for Global Leadership." She is also working on a collaborative, interdisciplinary research project comparing the role of the media in shaping immigration debates in Europe and the United States.
